The Need
Learners on the Autism Spectrum in South Africa still face major obstacles when it comes to accessing education in mainstream, full-service, and special schools. These obstacles include discrimination in school admissions, difficulties with transportation due to long distances and poor options, a shortage of specialised teachers, and no skills training facilities for individuals on the spectrum over the age of 18.
A leading researcher in South Africa based at UCT estimates that approximately 2% of our population is affected by ASD. As a result, those with Autism and other sensory and developmental disabilities suffer the exclusion of not being accommodated for their special needs in many public spaces and the education sector.
Our Vision
The Autism Fountain’s aim is to provide high-quality education for verbal and non-verbal Autistic individuals (from 3 years up to over 18 years of age) in every corner of South Africa, one centre at a time.
With the option of boarding facilities to overcome the logistical hurdle of transporting students to and from school.
Partner with us
The Autism Fountain provides daycare and boarding facilities for kids and adults with Autism. The Autism Fountain is for verbal and non-verbal autistic children who cannot cope in mainstream school environment.
Founder Nicolene Botha's dream became a reality in 1998 when she started working with Autistic children. Now, with over 20 years of experience and a B Ed(Hon) in Learner Support, she has even published a book called "My Talking Book" after years of research on facilitating non-verbal children.
Pursuing her dream to reach and invest in the lives of Autistic children, she opened the first Autism Fountain Centre in East London in 2021.
We are seeking investors, collaborators, and partners, including individuals, small businesses, corporations, and social organisations, to join us on our journey of giving every Autistic child the opportunity to thrive.
